This is one of the most popular peak among 33 designated trekking peaks in Nepal. It lies in the center of the Everest region. People looking for something challenging for their first time ascent on the mountain can choose this peak to make their dream come true. It is slightly harder then the Everest base camp trek but do not require past climbing experience. Our climbing guide will train us, how to use ice axe, climbing boot, climbing up and down on a rope before our final summit. We design our Island Peak itinerary carefully, first to EBC then Kalapathar and come back to Island Peak summit so that our guest will get well acclimatized. We have ultra experienced climbers to make our dream come true. Our climbing package include boots and gear that we need for the summit.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival- Kathmandu altitude 1,350m/4,428 ft transfer to hotel with B/B plan.
Welcome to Kathmandu the capital city and the truly the cultural hub of Nepal. We will receive you from TIA and transfer to your hotel where you can have a good rest after long flight journey. Thamel is the main tourist destination city where you can explore in the evening.
Day 2: Kathmandu/Preparation for your trek.
It will be nice to meet you in the afternoon and check out the climbing gear you have brought and we consult what is needed to make our climbing program success. We will make sure that the climbing boots that fit well before we head off to the mountain.There will be small briefing program from our guide in the evening.
Day 3: Kathmandu to Lukla 35 minutes flight and trek to Phakding. Altitude: 2,800m/9184ft (Lukla) and 2,652 m/8,698ft (Phakding) Distance: 8km (4/5 hours journey)
Today we will have 35 minutes morning flight to Lukla. During your flight you will observe beautiful mountain ranges on the left hand side. We will meet our entire trek staffs at Lukla and slowly we begin our easy day walk through colourful Sherpa villages.The Dudh koshi river (Milky river) on left gorge will attract us with chanting river sound make our journey worth. We stop at Phakding overnight.
Day 4: Phakding to Namche Bazaar Altitude: 3,440m/11,283ft Distance: 10/12km (6/7 hours journey)
After the breakfast in Phakding we slowly follow Dudh koshi river cross 2 beautiful suspension bridges and reach Monjo where we check in to Sangarmatha National park.Lunch at Jorsale and slowly again follow same river and cross double Hillary suspension bridge before we ascend about 600m to reach Namche Bazaar the biggest Sherpa Village in the region.
Day 5: Rest/Acclimatization day
Today early morning we walk 15 minutes to the Everest view point and grab a chance to have the first view of majesty Mount Everest, Ama Dablam, Nuptse shar, Thamserku, kongde Peak and many more peaks. After the breakfast explore Namche bazaar, visit Sherpa Museum for an overview of the Sherpa Culture and history of the mountaineering. People can walk up to Khumjung village and return to Namche bazaar, a 5 hours hike and have a good rest to get rid of lofty Altitude.
Day 6: Namche bazaar to Debuche 3,870m/12,684ft Ditance: 10km (6/7 hours journey)
After the breakfast start walking around 8 am towards Everest base camp route.The views is an amazing which allow us to forget our tiredness. Slowly, we descend about 25 minutes to reach Riverside the best spot for Lunch. We climb serious steep uphill to get to the most beautiful place Debuche . The views are Monastry ground, Yak pasture, Mount Everest, Nuptse, Ama Dablam and some high hills.
Day 7: Debuche to Dingbuche Altitude: 4,400m/14,435ft Distance: 11km (6/7 hours journey)
Today we will pass the valley wall and then traverse the plains to Pangbuche sherpa settlement village. After this village a bit dry section and stunning mountains around will help you forget your tiredness up to Dingbuche Valley.
Day 8: Dingbuche Rest/Acclimatization day Altitude: 4,400m/14,435ft
Today it will be nice to climb Dingbuche-Ri for acclimatization.The views from Dingbuche and Dingbuche- Ri is magic and Island peak is seen bottom to top from here so one can calculate your energy to climb this beautiful Peak.
Day 9: Dingbuche to Labuche Altitude: 4,900m/16,076ft Distance: 11/12km (6/7 hours journey)
It will be nice to get ready for an adventure walk to Labuche around 8 am after good breakfast. two hours walking journey will take us to Thukla where few lodges will offer warm lunch that help us to climb 1/5 hours climb up to Thukla top.The landscape change and valley entrance will offer us beautiful views of Mt. Pumori, Mt. Nuptse and Mt. labuche slowly we will be in Labuche where the temperature gradually drops.
Day 10:Labuche to Gorakshep/EBC Altitude: 5180m/16,994ft Gorakshep and 5,365m/17598ft EBC Distance: 15km (7/8 hours journey)
Start a bit early walk to Gorakshep and order our lunch. After our Lunch rest 15 minutes and start our final goal to EBC and back to Gorakshep by evening.The trail to Gorakshep and EBC is slightly tiring due to rocky dunes/Glacier and debris crossing.Once we arrive EBC we can see Khumbu ice fall and lots of colourful tents of Everest Expedition.
Day 11: EBC to Kalapathar and Chukung Altitude: 5,545m/18,192ft Kalapathar and 4,730m/15,518ft chukung Distance: 16km(7/8 hours journey)
Today start around 4 am to climb Kalapathar to grab chances of Golden sunrise on Everest and Panoramic views of the surrounding mountain.Once we finish we return to Gorakshep for good breakfast. As soon as we finish our breakfast pack up and leave to Chukung.
Day 12: Chukung to Island Peak basecamp 5,200m/17,060ft Distance: 5km (4 hours journey)
Start relatively short hike to Island Peak basecamp. The climber do not need good climbing experience (assuming sufficient Physical fitness)but having climbing experience one would feel more stronger and confident. Our climbing guide will help us during our training on the use of implements like ice axe and climbing boot. Training like moving up and down on ropes etc and finally push for the summit at midnight try to reach to the summit around 8 am with fantastic views waiting there for us.
Day 13: Island Peak summit and return to Chukung Altitude: 6,189m/20,305ft Summit Distance 10km (12/14 hours)
Today a big day for us.Prepare to get started before the thin light as we make our ascent with head lamps, scaling rocky trail up hills.The trek against a plateau of virginal snow bring us to the steep where now time to use our climbing skills and after hard work finally we make our summit from where closer mountains and Chukung valley is clearly seen.
Day 14: Chukung to Tengbuche (Distance 14km)
Day 15: Tengbuche to Namche (Distance 10km)
Day 16: Namche to Lukla (Distance 16km)
Day 17: Departure

We advise you to obtain trekking gear and equipment before your trekking in Nepal. You can get most of them in Kathmandu on rental basis or purchase them. Our staff will assist you to solve the problem. It is meant to make our valuable guest feel comfortable in a range of expected weather conditions. Except your small day pack, all the luggage is carried by the porter. The domestic flight will allow you to have 15 kg baggage which include day pack. We can store any extra luggage in a hotel where you live.
